Pumpkin Lighting in Carlton Park

On Sunday evening people who live near Carlton Park (north of Dupont at Franklin Ave and Edith Ave) had their fourth annual Pumpkin Lighting. The park, which is near St. Josaphat's church, is a little far from Bloor and Lansdowne but close enough to be in my stomping grounds. When friends who live near the park sent out an email asking people to come with them to the pumpkin lighting, I decided to go.

I was impressed by what I saw. I counted 50 jack-o-lanterns arranged on the ledges beside the wading pool. One of the organizers said this was the best turnout they've had so far and was hoping the event would keep growing. Neighbours were talking to each other and I ran into quite a few people I know. There were a lot of excited children. One little boy was upset because he had to leave his pumpkin behind for city workers to pick up the next morning. One woman was handing out cups of warm apple cider. Another woman was offering cookies. All in all it was an enjoyable community event.
